Chapter 19: Design Your Growth Environment

Growth does not happen only in the mind.

Growth needs an environment.

A good environment makes good behavior easier.

A poor environment makes poor behavior effortless.

Instead of asking, “Why am I not disciplined enough?” ask, “Can I design the environment to support me?”

Four Elements of a Growth Environment

InputHigh-quality books, questions, examples, and people.
ActionA small but real output task each day.
FeedbackPeople, markets, or results that show what works.
RecoverySleep, movement, quiet, and relationships that restore the system.

Many people have input but no action.

Some have action but no feedback.

Some have feedback but no recovery.

A good growth environment holds all four.

Design should be light.

It should feel like digging a channel so water can flow, not building a prison for yourself.
